Letter from Teacher, Middle School Kids Need our Help

Imagine waking up, on the weekend or over a long holiday break and having nothing to eat. I’m not speaking of the “nothing” that you and I generally experience. You know, the one where there IS food in the pantry, fridge, and freezer but the tough part is deciding exactly WHAT it is that you would LIKE to eat? You . . . have options. The “nothing” I’m speaking of is waking up to an EMPTY pantry, fridge and freezer with NO OPTIONS!

Fortunately, you are able to provide for your children. However, the parents of our students are working, many of them multiple jobs, and still are unable to provide basic needs for their families. These children are living in circumstances beyond their control. They would not make a “no options” choice. But, that is their reality and, unfortunately, it affects a large number of our students at Travis Middle School.

Snack Pak 4 Kids provides a service to these students that is invaluable and life changing. The support our students feel runs much deeper than the food they receive. Each bite they take causes them to feel valued and cared for, instead of alone and isolated.

It is a blessing to be able to witness the smiles and share in the exuberance when these kiddos receive their food. They, now, have “options”! And, when they return to us after a weekend or long holiday break they return prepared to be better learners, because of the nourishment they received through the generosity of Snack Pak 4 Kids.

Options . . .they are a good thing! J

Blessings and joy,

Travis Middle School

An Official “No Excuses University” School

We are launching our "Snack Shak" program at Travis MS and Bonham MS the first week of December. Students will have 25 options to choose from that best meet their needs. This is modeled after our very successful Snack Shak program at Austin Middle school. We hope to have "Snack Shak" at every middle and high school by 2015 if we can secure donors, sponsors, and volunteers. Tascosa HS started their program 3 weeks ago.
