Swisher Electric Cooperative Helps Snack Pak

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

“Snack Pak for Kids” was the inspiration for a Snack Pak 4 Kids Tuliapeanut butter drive at Swisher Electric Cooperative.  Employees were randomly drawn and placed on two teams:  the “creamy” team and the “crunchy” team.  It was a friendly competition that enabled Swisher Electric Cooperative employees to
participate in fulfilling an important need in our community.
Swisher Electric has a Wellness program that is designed to ensure the
supports of employees’ efforts to live healthfully.  Good health goes beyond
the physical aspects of eating well, being physically active and managing
weight.  It also includes building a culture and environment that fosters
good physical, mental, emotional, social and financial well-being overall.
This drive was to encourage employees to participate in a coordinated
volunteer opportunity sponsored by the cooperative.
Swisher Electric Cooperative would like to challenge other businesses in
Tulia and the area to join the effort to support our community.
The final result: the “Creamy” Team CREAMED the “Crunchy” team!  However,
the real winner was “Snack Pak for Kids” who received enough jars of peanut
butter for one month!

Volunteers Make a Difference

The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others-Mahtma Gandhi. Can you imagine over 200 people from different backgrounds coming together for one cause to end weekend hunger in our schools. In a country where we are divided on many topics and beliefs, it is humbling to see all of those things disappear for  one hour at our warehouse.  Every other Tuesday we have churches, youth groups, businesses, retired seniors, stay at home moms, pharmacist, doctors, teachers, girl scouts, nurses, and every other group you can imagine helping us assemble over 3500 Snack Paks. Without this support we would not serve over 2150 kids in AISD. What you don’t see if you come to our warehouse is the 8 churches in Amarillo and Bushland that do the same thing at their church to support the schools they sponsor. Without R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) none of this would happen.  They organize all the volunteers and prep for the massive effort every other week. Thank you LaRue, Rick, and Gloria at RSVP for all your help.Snack Pak 4 Kids
